I have been teaching in the English department at A.L. Brown High since 1996. I organize the senior field trip to the Carolina Renaissance Festival, and collaborate with the entire staff to help our seniors successfully complete the Graduation Project.

Educational Philosophy
"I have five lessons to teach. What lessons they learn is entirely up to them." - Nanny McPhee

Summer Reading for Honors English IV:
Theme: Corruption
Students must
read either Darkness at Noon by Arthur Koestler OR Zinky Boys by Svetlana Alexievich, OR The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler prior to the first day of class. A reflective writing activity will be completed within the first ten days of the semester.
Students are encouraged to take handwritten notes as they read and/or annotate the text.
*NOTE: These novels do contain some language and situational violence (Zinky Boys is made up of first-hand accounts of wartime experiences); however, it has been approved by the KCS Administration. If an alternate assignment is needed, please ask. Please note: this class will have daily homework assignments consisting of
reading and/or writing.
