Chargers, Wonders win A.L. Brown track meet

KANNAPOLIS – The A.L. Brown girls and Cox Mill boys won their respective team competitions at a track and field meet at A.L. Brown High School Thursday afternoon.

The Wonder boys finished with 94 points to edge Cox Mill (87) and were followed by Jay M. Robinson (42) and Central Cabarrus (31).

A.L. Brown junior Joshua Parks was the meet’s only competitor to take home three gold medals, as he dominated the 400-meter run as well as the triple jump and high jump.

Fellow Wonders Jalen Neal (100 meters and 200 meters) and Brandon Hernandez (1,600 meters and 3,200 meters) won two events apiece, as did Jay M. Robinson’s Javonte O’faire (110 hurdles and 300 hurdles).

Other individual boys winners were A.L. Brown’s Nick Lyerly (long jump); and Cox Mill’s Brendan Cavazos (800 meters) and Spencer Hill (discus and shot put).
