Kannapolis City Schools is cancelling school for students on Friday, September 14thThe National Hurricane Center is forecasting that high winds from Hurricane Florence will impact Kannapolis on Friday, September 14th. The winds will make it dangerous to have buses on the road, and there is predicted to be significant amounts of rainfall that will impact travel. As a result, KCS has decided to cancel classes for students on Friday, September 14th. It will be an optional workday for KCS staff. KCS also has cancelled all after school activities scheduled for Thursday, September 13th.

KCS is waiting to announce a possible make-up day until after the storm has passed. Once district leaders know how much school will be missed due to Hurricane Florence, they will determine if make-up days are needed and when the make-up day(s) would take place.

KCS leaders will continue to monitor the weather and make decisions about the school schedule with the safety of students and staff as their first priority. As soon as decisions are made, KCS will notify families with automated phone messages and post information on the KCS website, social media pages, and local media outlets.
